Installing IBO Player and loading your MiraPlay playlist
IBO Player is the only application MiraPlay supports, and it runs on nearly every screen a Canadian household owns. This guide covers installation on each platform, the remote playlist registration step that trips people up, and the settings worth changing on day one.
Before you begin
Have two things to hand: the credential email MiraPlay sent you (it contains your Xtream username, password and server address, plus an M3U playlist link) and the device you intend to watch on. Nothing else is required. If the email has not arrived, look in the promotions or spam folder before contacting support.
Why IBO Player? It installs on Android, Windows, macOS, Fire TV hardware and — crucially — on Samsung and LG televisions that run their own closed operating systems, where most players simply do not exist. Playback is smooth, the interface is uncluttered, and because we support one application rather than a dozen, our agents know every menu by heart.
What the application does and does not do
- Runs almost anywhere. Installation files are published for every major platform, which is why it suits mixed households where the living room, the basement and the bedroom all run different hardware.
- Works on non-Android smart TVs. This is the single biggest reason we standardised on it. Closed television operating systems limit what developers can build, and many players skip those sets entirely.
- Does not record. There is no capture or recording function. If archiving broadcasts matters to you, plan around that.
- Does not do multi-screen. One picture at a time, which aligns exactly with the one-device rule on every MiraPlay subscription.
- Uses remote playlist activation. You enter your MiraPlay credentials on the IBO portal in a browser rather than typing them with a TV remote; the portal then pushes them to your device. Slightly unusual, far less painful than an on-screen keyboard.
- Carries a small licence fee. The application is paid after a short evaluation window. It is a one-off, low-cost licence paid to the app developer — it is not part of your MiraPlay subscription and we do not receive any of it.
Installing on Android phones, tablets and boxes

Installing on LG and Samsung smart televisions
This is the path most MiraPlay subscribers take, because it needs no extra hardware at all. The steps below describe an LG set running webOS; Samsung and other closed-platform televisions follow the same shape.
- Open your TV's app storeLaunch the built-in content store from the home screen.
- SearchSelect the magnifier icon in the corner and type "IBO Player".
- Pick the right entrySeveral similarly named apps may appear. Choose the one named exactly "IBO Player" and ignore the imitations.
- Install and launchConfirm the installation, then open the application.
- Leave it on the welcome screenNote the MAC address and device key — you need them next.
Registering your MiraPlay playlist
IBO Player uses remote activation: you add credentials on the developer's website and the portal pushes them to your device. Do this from a phone or computer — it is far quicker than typing on a TV remote.
- Open the playlist managerOn the IBO Player website, choose Manage Playlist from the top menu.
- Find your device identifiersOn the television or box, open the app, select the profile icon on the dashboard and read the MAC address and device key from the Device Info panel.
- Sign in to the portalEnter those two values in the website form and log in.
- Add the playlistChoose Add XC Playlist and enter the host, username and password from your MiraPlay credential email. This is the method we recommend, because it carries the full category structure and the programme guide.
- Or use the M3U linkIf you prefer, choose Add Playlist instead, give it a name and paste the playlist URL. Leave the XMLTV EPG field empty and the guide will be read from the playlist automatically. Tick Protect This Playlist if you want a PIN on it.
- Save and refreshSave on the website, then use the refresh control on the app dashboard. The full grid appears within a minute or two.
Two settings worth changing immediately
Fix the Live TV layout
The default live screen style crowds channel names under the preview window and misaligns the guide. From the dashboard, select the screen icon next to the Wi-Fi symbol, switch the live screen style to the alternative option and save. Channel names gain room, the mini preview sits correctly and the EPG lines up. Press the left arrow on the remote whenever you want the category column back.
Set the parental PIN
Open Settings, then Parental Control. The first time you are asked for the current PIN, enter 0000 — that is the factory value even though you never set it. Choose your own code afterwards. If you forget it later, reset it from the playlist portal on the developer's website.
Finding your way around
- Favourites. On the channel list, press and hold OK on a channel and choose Add. A heart appears beside the name and the channel joins the favourites folder at the top of the category column.
- Search. The search control sits in the bottom-left of the Live TV overview and looks across every category at once. It matches specific terms, so type the channel name carefully.
- Films and series. The on-demand section defaults to newest additions. The palette icon switches between two visual themes, the arrow sorts by date, rating or alphabetically, and the magnifier searches.
- Hide what you never watch. Settings, then Manage Categories, lets you remove whole groups from the grid — the fastest way to turn 26,400 channels into a list your household actually navigates.
- Change the playback engine. Settings offers three players for live television. If a particular channel stutters, switching engines often resolves it before anything else does.
- Clear the cache. If artwork breaks or the guide looks wrong, Settings then Clear Cache fixes it the overwhelming majority of the time.
When something goes wrong
- Nothing loads at all. Re-check the host, username and password in the portal — a trailing space is the usual culprit — then refresh the data from the dashboard.
- One channel stutters, the rest are fine. Switch the live TV player engine in Settings, then try again.
- Everything stutters in the evening. Connect the television by Ethernet if you possibly can. Wired beats Wi-Fi decisively for live sport.
- The guide is empty. Clear the cache, refresh the data, and allow a few minutes for fourteen days of EPG to populate.
Still stuck? Write to our desk from the contact page with your device model and what you see on screen, and an agent will walk you through it. The questions page also covers the recurring ones.
